Dr. Busch attended the first conference on Nutrition and Mental Health in 1976, in Austin, Texas, featuring Dr. Roger Williams. After decades of waiting for an alternative treatment with efficacy for ADHD, around 2018 Dr. Busch attended a lecture in Atlanta presented by Dr. John Taylor, an author of 14 books on ADHD. In his workshop, Dr. Taylor indicated that he “required” all of his clients to take a blue-green algae, Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA), growing in Klamath Lake, Oregon. Dr. Taylor indicated that it was his belief that the missing link in treating ADHD was brain detoxification. He is convinced that AFA both detoxifies and nourishes the brain and helps people with ADHD.

Dr. Busch embarked on his own review of the medical literature before telling his own clients about AFA. He found that not only is there some empirical evidence that it can help with ADHD, but AFA is beneficial for a wide range of internal organs and health issues. (Explore the scientific research here.) Based on how his clients have performed on the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA), an empirical measure of attention, a computer test, roughly a third of his clients show marked improvements while another third experience more moderate improvement, and another third show little or no change. There has also been a great deal of empirical evidence that Omega-3 supplements have a beneficial effect on the Brain. In fact, they are the most popular supplement in the U.S. First there was the smelly fish oil source of Omega-3. Then It was discovered that the fish were getting their Omega-3 from Krill. So then there was Krill Oil, a major improvement. Then it was discovered that Krill get their Omega-3 from a marine blue-green algae. That algae was isolated and is now grown in pools in the U.S. The odorless, and much more bio-available Vegan Omega-3 can be purchased from Amandean.
